Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
The magnificent verdant swathe across the steep ridges of the Albertine Rift Valley, this ancient rainforest - one of the few in Africa to have flourished throughout the last Ice Age - is home to roughly half of the world's mountain gorillas.
Looking deep into the expressive brown eyes of these gentle giants is surely the most exciting and poignant wildlife encounter that Uganda has to offer - but we should not let it distract from Bwindi's broader biodiversity, a result of its immense antiquity and an altitude span from 1,160 to 2,607m.
The forest birding ranks with the best in Uganda, with 23 highly localized Albertine Rift endemics present.

Climate.
The annual average temperature of bwindi range between 17-20oc with the coldest period being June and July. The place is cold especially in the morning and at night.
What to bring.
Carry warm clothing, rain gear, solid walking shoes, sunscreen, insect/mosquito repellants and binoculars.
Gorilla rules.
You should book well in advance to ensure that permits for your requested dates are available.
No one with a communicable disease such as flu or diarrhea is allowed to visit the gorillas.
Do not surround the gorillas but remain in one group.
Children of 15 years and below are not permitted to view the chimps for safety reasons.
If you need to ease yourself, please do so but off the trail and bury waste in a hole of 30cm deep.
Do not scare or attempt to provoke the gorillas.
Flash photography is strictly forbidden.
Follow your guide’s instructions.
Contact time with the gorillas is strictly limited to one hour.
When with the gorillas avoid making loud noises or sudden movements.
Do not spit on vegetation or soil while in the park
Do not eat or smoke with in 200m from the gorillas.
