Game Reserves in Uganda.

SEMULIKI GAME RESERVE
It is the former Toro reserve located in the Western Rift Valley in Uganda between the Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Albert lies the Semuliki Wildlife Reserve. Semliki is a reserve of dramatic contrasts with miles of acacia savannah dotted with borassus palms. The shimmering shores of Lake Albert and the steep green slopes of the foothills of the Rwenzori leading up the escarpment, border the reserve.

Boat trip: on Lake Albert - Excellent opportunities to see the rare Shoebill Stork, shore birds, hippos, and the rift valley escarpment plunging into the lake. A longer day trip, which includes a visit to the remote and spectacular Nkusi Falls, is also possible.

Night game drives: A night game drive will take you in an open savannah grassland to explore the creatures of the night. You can see nocturnal species such as leopard, lion, spotted genets, white-tailed mongoose, eagle owls and spectacular nightjars.
Forest walk: Guided nature walks in gallery forest where you can see primates, birds, butterflies and different species of plants. Over 40 Kms of walking trails have been developed. Guests are invited to wake early and join our chimp researcher on his habituation work.
Wildlife: The reserve is a home to a variety of wildlife like - elephant, buffalo, hyena, bushbuck, waterbuck, reedbuck, duiker, Uganda Kob, forest hog, warthog, many types of monkeys. Included with Semuliki National Park over 400 species of birds have been recorded.

KARUMA GAME RESERVE
Open grassland and forest. Access by road from Kampala. The reserve is a buffer on the edge of Murchison Falls Park. Open all year round. No accommodation available. Animals living in the park include buffalo, elephant, hartebeest, Kob, lion, waterbuck and a wide variety of birds.

AJAI GAME RESERVE
Game reserve of Ajai is made mainly by forests, grassland and swamps. It takes its name by the Ajai Island and it covers an area of 158 sq. km. The different rivers crossing the reserve (Nile, Acha and Linya) create a unique ecosystem with swampy areas and drained higher ground each one with its own fauna and flora.

Many species of birds inhabit the reserve like: Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), Piapiac, Heuglin's Masked-Weaver (Ploceus heuglini), Gray-headed Oliveback (Nesocharis capistrata), Emin's Shrike (Lanius gubernator) and many others.

ASWA-LOLIM GAME RESERVE.
Aswa-Lolim game reserve was used by elephants to migrate from Murchison Falls area to southern Sudan. Today human settlements have blocked this route and some believe that various elephants still live within Zika forest.
It can be accessed by difficult roads from Gulu

BOKORA CORRIDOR GAME RESERVE
Animals living in the reserve include antelope, eland, gazelle, giraffe, hartebeest, hyena, Kob, leopard, lion, oribi, oryx, reedbuck, topi and a wide variety of birds. No accommodation available.

BUGUNGU GAME RESERVE
Savannah and woodland. Access by road from Kampala. The reserve is a buffer on the edge of Murchison Falls Park. Open all year round. No accommodation available. Animals living in the park include buffalo, elephant, hartebeest, Kob, lion, waterbuck and a wide variety of birds.

KATONGA GAME RESERVE.
Only recently developed for tourism, the reserve protects a network of forest-fringed wetlands along the Katonga River. Best explored on foot and by canoe, Katonga supports some 40 mammal and at least 150 bird species, many specific to wetland habitats. Most visible are elephant, waterbuck, reedbuck, colobus monkeys and river otter.
This is one of the best places in Africa to look for the elusive sitatunga, a semi-aquatic antelope with webbed hooves that forages almost exclusively in swamps.
