14 DAYS RWENZORI-MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON CLIMBING AND PRIMATE SAFARI

The Rwenzori have for centuries been the cause of speculation, mystery, myth and fable. In the past it was widely believed that from the mountain flowed the legendary source of the Nile. These mist covered snow capped mountains harbor 195 species of birds so far recorded and numerous mammals. You will experience the results of Afro-Alpine gigantism- forest of giant heather, ground set and lobelias up to 10 times their normal height. Above all you will encounter the mountain itself, its snowy peaks towering over 5000 meters above the equatorial jungle.

Day 01: Kampala –Kibale forest National park
The Company representative will pick you from the airport, welcome you and brief you about your safari. Depart by road to Kibale forest national park which is located in the beautiful western country side of Uganda and will expose to plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and indigenous cattle grazing along the road. Meet and greet Fort Portal which lies in the shadow of the enchanted Mountains of the Moon, you will have a stopover for lunch and relax a bit then proceed to Kibale National Park.
Dinner and overnight at Ndali lodge or primates lodge.

Day 02: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk

Wake up early morning take breakfast and report to Kanyanchu Tourist Centre where the chimpanzee tracking in the park begins from. Set out in the forest in search for a man’s closest animal brothers the endangered chimpanzees! Here chances of viewing the chimps are over 90% but it’s not a guarantee and this will take you around 4-8 hours. Other primates in this forest that you will encounter are the threatened Red-colobus monkey, the rare L’Hoest’s monkeys, the red tailed monkey, Blue monkey, Grey Cheeked mangabeys, and many others not leaving out butterflies. Return for lunch and in the afternoon, visit Bigodi Swamp eco-tourism site it’s amazing, as we shall encounter rare and beautiful flora and fauna.
Dinner and overnight at Ndali lodge or primates lodge.

Day 03: Depart for Rwenzori Mountains.
After breakfast, we set of to Rwenzori Mountains fast take a visit to the crater regions and we proceed. Drive along the Rwenzori ranges and Savanna grasslands to Nyakalengijo on to Ibanda the starting point in time for lunch after lunch you relax around at the Lodge. In the afternoon you go for the village walk came back for dinner and overnight at your accommodation.

Day 04: Depart to Ibanda and take a hike up to Nyabitaba hut
After the morning breakfast we go to Ibanda and you start the 5-7 hours climb into the mountains. This climb will take you through thick Equatorial vegetation before you arrive to Nyabitaba hut which is at 2650 meters dinner and overnight.

Day 05: hike through the Kurt Sharfer Bridge to John Mattes hut
Early morning breakfast then start your hike again through the Kurt Sharfer Bridge to marvel at the sparking Mobuku river confluence. This climb will take you through the open patches, Lobelia, and Heath moss forest before you arrive to John Mattes hut for overnight.

Day 06: hike to Giant Lobelias and Bigo-Bog

Early morning cap of coffee then proceed through the Giant Lobelias and heath trees. Then you ascend to the Bigo-Bog and scenic landscape of Lobelias and giant Ground sets before you arrive to Bujuku hut for overnight which is at 3997 meters.

Day 07: proceed to Mount-Victoria up to Mount-Speak hut
Early morning cap of coffee and head off from the valley in with scenic alpine-vegetation consisting of the Giant Ground sets and Lobelia and proceed on to ascent Mount-Victoria up to Mount-Speak hut for overnight which is at 4890 meters.

Day 08: hike to Scott-Elliott
Early morning cap of coffee then you proceed through the lovely views of the Savola and Elena glaciers, and scale further through to the Scott-Elliott which is at 4372 meters and proceed through the snow to the Elena hut for overnight.

Day 09: hikes to Alexander peak
Early morning cap of coffee then you ascent to the snowy Alexander peak which is at 5092 meters proceed onwards up to the highest-peak which is at 5109 meters here you have the great opportunities of photographs. And then later you descend to the beautiful Lake Kitandara hut for overnight which is at 3900 meters.

Day 10: Guy-Yeoman’s hut
After your morning breakfast you start to descent up to Guy-Yeoman’s hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Nyabitaba and Ibanda

After the morning breakfast you proceed to Nyabitaba and proceed to Ibanda for dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Depart Queen Elizabeth National park
After breakfast, and then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, We enter the park from the Northern crater Area. With beautiful lakes and rich grasslands which are set deep in the crater valley, this is truly the most breathtaking scenery in the park. Queen Elizabeth is host to a large variety and volume of wildlife. It boasts one of the highest Bio-diversity ratings of any game park in the world, from the open Savannah to Rain Forest, dense swamps and beautiful crater lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward. Almost 100 species that include Hippo, Lions, Buffaloes, Leopard, Spotted Hyenas, Elephants and the elusive giant forest hog. There are over 606 species of birds found here including the martial eagle, black-rumped buttonquail, Verreaux’s eagle owl and African Skimmer to name but a few. The primates include Chimpanzees, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Blue, Black Faced Red Colobus, and Red Tailed monkeys and Olive Baboons.
Dinner and over night at Hippo Hill Camp or Jacana Safari Lodge Kyambura Safari Camp.

Day 13: morning game drive and afternoon launch cruise
An early morning game drive in this park, provide excellent opportunities to see Lions, Leopards, Giant Forest Hogs, Cape Buffaloes, Elephants, Defassa Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs and Bush bucks and many more. Lunch Break.
In the afternoon you go for the 2-hours boat cruise on the kazinga channel and into Lake Edward. This trip passes through possibly the highest pods of Hippos and many animals may be seen drinking at the water’s edge. This launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing ideal for the Uganda safari. The prolific bird life is colorful and stupendous with well over 55o resident species.
Dinner and overnight a Mweya safari lodge or Jacana Safari Lodge Kyambura Safari Camp.

Day 14: Drive to Kampala
Break fast in the morning and drive to Kampala. Along the road you will have a stopover at the Equator for photographs then drive to Kampala then proceed to the Airport for your flight back home.
